What Makes a Good Landing Page: A Checklist Before Every Ad Campaign

However good your ad is, it means nothing if the landing page makes customers leave before they decide to buy

Many businesses pour budget into making their ads a hit, but forget to check whether the page customers land on after clicking is ready to turn clicks into real customers. An unready landing page is a leak that quietly drains your ad budget.

If your page takes more than 3 seconds to load, there's a very high chance customers will close it before even seeing the content, especially on mobile, where most people view ads. Regularly check image sizes and unnecessary scripts on your landing page.

The message must match the ad they clicked

If your ad talks about a 30% discount but the landing page doesn't mention it at all, customers will feel confused and unsure. The key principle is message match: the copy, images and offer on the page must be consistent with what the ad says at every point.

Your call-to-action must be clear and easy to see

Buttons to buy, enquire or fill in a form should stand out from the background, and the button text should say clearly what happens next, such as “Buy now” instead of something vague like “Click here.” On long pages, repeat the button in several places, not just once at the top.

Common mistake

Forms that are too long and ask for unnecessary information up front

Do this instead

Ask only for name, phone number and what's truly necessary. The easier the form, the more leads you get.

Checklist before every ad campaign

  • The page loads on mobile in under 3 seconds
  • The content matches what the ad says (message match)
  • There are reviews or credibility signals (social proof)
  • The call-to-action button is clear and appears in several places
  • The Pixel and event tracking are fully installed before ads go live

Summary

Your landing page is half the battle in advertising. However good the creative, if the destination page isn't ready, sales opportunities slip away. Run through this checklist every time before you launch a new campaign.
